GUIDELINES FOR VERTICAL CREDIT TRANSFER AND HORIZONTAL CREDIT TRANSFER

1.0 Vertical Credit Transfer

1.1 Vertical Credit Transfer refers to the credits that have been given exemption during application process into a programme of study based on the achievement in a particular course. It is an exemption to part of the credit requirements for degree conferral based on the existing qualification (diploma, degree or experience) endorsed by the government.

1.2 Vertical Credit Transfer is not allowed for a programmes of study pervously taken and awarded with a similar degree and level from other IPT.

1.3 Vertical Credit Transfer Application must be made to the faculty or IRK during the programme of study application.

 

2.0   Horizontal Credit Transfer

2.1   Horizontal Credit Transfer is the credit transferred to the students who have taken and passed a similar course that is recognized by any IPT during the duration of study in the university. The course applied for the Horizontal Credit Transfer must be equivalent to and fulfill the requirements of the present programme  curriculum.

2.2   Approved Horizontal Credit Transfer will be used in the calculation of GPA and CGPA.

2.3   A student is not allowed his/her last semester in another IPT by taking advantage of Horizontal Credit Transfer given unless with approval of the senate.

2.4   Only students with active registration status is allowed to apply for the Horizontal Credit Transfer.

2.5   Application for credit transfer of a course from other IPT must be done within ONE (1) semester before undergoing a mobility programme.

 

3.0   Rules and regulations for credit exemption and transfer

3.1   Students can apply for vertical credit transfer and/or horizontal credit transfer for any particular course based on specified rules and regulations.

3.2   Passing Grade

3.2.1  For vertical credit transfer, a minimum of Grade C or higher according to the University grading system.

3.2.2  For vertical credit transfer, a minimum of passed grade set by the faculty. The regulation for any course with a failed Grade will not be allowed.

3.3  Credit Value

Courses that are given Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer must be equivalent to the curriculum of the programme at the University in terms of academic workload and credit value.

3.4   Course Contents and Curriculum

3.4.1  The content of the courses for which Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer has been given must be equivalent to the existing curriculum of the programme of study. The course content must be at least 80% similar to the course offered by the University.

3.4.2  Approval for any Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer will be given for courses in a programme recognized by the government.

3.4.3  The total number of vertical credit transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer should not be more than 30% of the total number of credits required for the award of the degree of study. However, the faculty can request the senate to increase the percentage of more than 30%, but not exceeding 50%.

3.4.4  Courses given Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer will be recorded in the student’s academic records.

3.4.5  Applications for Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer should be made using the Vertical Credit Transfer/Horizontal Credit Transfer Form.

3.4.6 The approval for Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer will be given upon endorsement by the respective Faculty that is offering the course.

3.4.7  Students will be informed in waiting of the approval for Vertical Credit Transfer and Horizontal Credit Transfer approval.
